How it works

Organize and find

Put tags on what you read, link what belongs together, and find any of it again from Activity.

In short

  • Nothing goes into folders. A tag sits on a window or on a passage, and a tag on a passage is also a highlight in that tag’s colour.
  • Windows can be linked. A reference joins two windows, and a passage can be linked to the paper it comes from.
  • Activity finds everything. Type a word from a title, or click a tag, a type or a day.

How to tag

  1. Select a passage and right-click it. Choose 🏷 Tag… and type a name. The passage takes the tag’s colour.
  2. Press 🏷 in a window’s top bar to tag the whole window.
  3. Click a tag under Activity’s filter box and Activity shows only what carries it.

How to link two windows

  1. Press ⎘ in the top bar of the first window. Its reference goes into the bucket, the tray of references waiting to be pasted.
  2. Press ⎘ in the top bar of the second window and paste it. The two windows are now linked, and the link is drawn on the workspace.
  3. To link a passage to a paper, select it, right-click, and choose 🔗 Link selection to pdf….

How to find something again

  1. Type a word from its title in Activity’s Filter the activity… box. Activity keeps only what matches.
  2. Click a tag, a type or a day under the box to narrow it further. Hold ⇧ and click a day to see that day alone.
  3. Save the filters you use often with + Save combination. ↺ Reset clears them.
  4. Click an entry and the workspace goes to that window.
🏷 in Activity’s top bar opens the tag map: every tag with its groups📌 in a window’s top bar pins it, so it stays one click away at the top of Activity⌘K does anything by name

Good to know

  • Tags can hold tags. Group them into a tree, and give a tag a type that says what question it answers: Domain, Topic, Theme…
  • 🧩 Organize by type (right-click the workspace) lays the whole workspace out by what each window is.
  • Hold ⌥ and press Tab to step through the windows you used most recently.
